The Duquesa Golf Club, in collaboration with the Duquesa Charitable Society of Saint George, held a Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner, on Saint George’s Day, 23rd April, to raise funds for the Saint George Charity.

Thankfully the rain held off, and the players were able to enjoy the much improved Duquesa golf course.

There were a number of prizes, thanks to the generous sponsors, with the following players taking the honours: 1st place winning 4 green fees at La Reserva – Roger Boult, Ged Gale, Barry Jameson and Warren Holton; 2nd place winning green fees at Cabopino and Alcaidesa – Dave Wilkins, Dan Lowe, Barry Wilkins and Alan Rimmer; 3rd place – Andy White, Matt Heath, Phil O’Brien and David Newman. Nearest the pin winners were – John Myers, Noel Corcoran, Phil O’Brien, Lisa Grutter, Steve Bott, Alfie Chemaly and Debbie Wilkey. Longest drives Ann Marie Conlon and Dave Wilkins.

Later that evening diners enjoyed a lovely meal with live music from the talented Danny Vaughn, who had them up and dancing.

The Saint George Charity would like to thank all those that made the event such a success, with special mentions going to club captain, David Newman, ably assisted by Phil O’Brien, Matt Heath and the team from the Pro Shop, to all the sponsors, namely: Baycrest Wealth, Comunimas, Purple Cars, Estepona Tyres, Runabout Rentals, Pavarotti Ristorante, All About Gifts, Bernies’ Sports Bar, Ryders, Flying Squirrel, La Reserva Golf Club, Finca Cortesin, Matt Heath Golf Coaching, and O’Callaghans Bar, whose efforts helped raise a grand total of 2,478 euros for the Charity’s work in the local community.
