In response to the terrible earthquake in Morocco, the Saint George Charity has studied a number of options as to how best and most effectively to respond.
After looking at a number of options we have decided to contribute 1,000 euros to Maroc Atlas Gibraltar 4×4, a Gibraltar group of off-road enthusiasts, originally formed in 1994 as a Solidarity group taking supplies to children in the remotest parts of Morocco, who are organising a trip in October to deliver aid directly to some of the most remote areas affected.
We spoke with members of the club who informed us that it is more efficient and involves less bureaucracy, to purchase the food, medical supplies, and other essentials in country rather than to try and import, and have already secured most of the supplies ready for delivery.
The club has already raised over 13,000 euros in partnership with the charitable association the Muslim Youth of Gibraltar, towards this mission.
