Duquesa bar owners take aid to Ukraine

Local bar owners, Damian Platt and his wife Kirsty, are setting off this Thursday to the Polish Ukrainian border with a couple of van loads of much needed supplies for refugees of the conflict in Ukraine.
Former Royal Green Jacket Damian, who runs Heaven Bar in Duquesa Port, put the call out for donations of essential items such as medical supplies, sleeping bags, winter clothing, non-perishable foods, etc., and has been overwhelmed with the public response, including donations from members of the Gibraltar rugby club he plays for, from the forces in Gibraltar, and from a chain of pharmacies in Gib which is supplying medical supplies at cost or less.
The Saint George Charity has also pledged its support handing over the proceeds from this Wednesday’s ‘Shop for Ukraine’ day, with all the takings from its four charity shops on the day going to refugee relief. In the picture the Charity’s President, Dean Shelton, presented 500 euros and pledged to Revolut any extra takings direct to Damian and Kirsty en route.
Damian also runs a construction business, JD Building Services, which is funding all fuel and travel costs so that 100 percent of donations will be spent on aid for the refugees.
Damian anticipates that the trip should take a couple of days, driving 16 hours a day, finally dropping the items off at one of the huge distribution warehouses being operated by the aid organisations on the ground.
